Welcome to Shufl. This Privacy Policy explains how KidRide LLC (dba "Shufl," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (the "Platform").

Your privacy is important to us. We are committed to:

  • Protecting children's privacy under COPPA
  • Respecting user privacy rights under GDPR and CCPA
  • Collecting only the data necessary to provide our services
  • Being transparent about our data practices

By using Shufl, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Platform.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Information: Full name, email address, phone number, date of birth, password (encrypted), profile photo (optional)

Verification Information (Level 1 & 2): Driver's license, vehicle insurance (Level 2 drivers), vehicle registration (Level 2 drivers), Social Security Number (last 4 digits, for background checks - Level 2 only), facial biometrics (liveness check)

Family Circle Information: Names and contact information of family members you add, relationship to family members

Emergency Contacts: Names and phone numbers of emergency contacts, relationship to emergency contacts

Payment Information: Credit/debit card information (processed securely by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers), billing address

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Location Data: Real-time GPS location (when the app is in use), pickup and destination addresses for rides, route traveled during rides

Device Information: Device type (iOS or Android), operating system version, unique device identifiers, app version, IP address

Usage Data: Screens viewed, features used, time spent in the app, ride history, crash reports and performance data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Verify your identity (KYC and background checks)
  • Process ride requests and coordinate rides
  • Share your real-time location with Family Circle members (if enabled)
  • Send ride notifications and updates
  • Send emergency SOS alerts to your emergency contacts
  • Monitor for fraudulent or abusive activity
  • Improve our Platform and fix bugs

We do NOT:

  • Sell or rent your personal data to third parties
  • Send marketing to children under 18 (COPPA compliance)
  • Track you across other apps or websites

4. How We Share Your Information

4.1 Within Your Family Circle

Your name, profile photo, and real-time location are visible to Family Circle members (if you enable location sharing). Your ride history and ratings are visible to Family Circle members.

4.2 With Service Providers

We share your information with trusted third-party service providers:

  • Truora: Identity verification (KYC) and background checks
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • Twilio: SMS notifications
  • Firebase (Google): Hosting, database, analytics
  • Mapbox: Maps and routing

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to court orders, subpoenas, law enforcement requests, or to protect the safety of users.

We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Shufl is committed to protecting the privacy of children under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Age Restrictions:

  • Under 13: May NOT use Shufl
  • Ages 13-17: May use Shufl ONLY with verifiable parental consent

Parental Rights

Parents/Guardians have the right to:

  • Review the personal information collected from their child
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete their child's account and all associated data
  • Refuse further collection of their child's information

6. Your Privacy Rights

General Rights (All Users)

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your data (data portability)
  • Opt out of marketing communications
  • Disable location sharing (if 18+)

GDPR Rights (European Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights including: Right to Access, Right to Rectification, Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"), Right to Restrict Processing, Right to Data Portability, Right to Object, and Right to Withdraw Consent.

CCPA/CPRA Rights (California Users)

If you are a California resident, you have rights including: Right to Know, Right to Delete, Right to Correct, and Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing. Note: Shufl does NOT sell personal information.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.

Retention Periods:

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Ride history: Retained for 7 years (for tax and legal purposes)
  • Location data: Retained for 90 days
  • Emergency SOS logs: Retained for 7 years (for safety investigations)

8. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information:

  • Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
  • Secure Hosting: Data is hosted on Firebase (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Access Controls: Only authorized personnel can access personal data
  • Background Checks: All drivers undergo background checks

However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

9. Location Data & Tracking

Shufl collects your real-time GPS location when:

  • You have an active ride (as rider or driver)
  • You enable family location sharing
  • You press the SOS button

Adults (18+): You can disable location sharing at any time in Settings. Disabling will limit functionality.

Minors (<18): Location sharing is ALWAYS ON (cannot be disabled). Parents/Guardians can see real-time location at all times.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice in the app or sending an email.

12. SMS Messaging and User Consent

Shufl ("we," "our," "us") provides optional SMS (text message) notifications to keep families informed about ride activity, safety updates, and emergency alerts.

12.1 How We Collect and Use Phone Numbers

When you create a Shufl account or participate in ride coordination, you may provide your mobile phone number. We use this number only for purposes directly related to:

  • Ride confirmations and scheduling
  • Driver/rider arrival notifications
  • Emergency safety alerts
  • Account security verification (e.g., two-factor authentication)

We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with any third party for marketing or unrelated communications.

12.2 How You Give Consent

Users opt in to receive SMS/text messages by checking an optional consent box inside the Shufl mobile app when adding their phone number or emergency contacts. This checkbox is unchecked by default, and users can disable SMS alerts anytime under Settings → Safety Tab.

12.3 Opt-Out and Help Instructions

You may stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP to any SMS message from Shufl. After you reply STOP, you will receive one final confirmation message and then no further texts will be sent.

12.4 Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Shufl is not responsible for any charges incurred from your carrier related to SMS messages.

12.5 Data Retention and Security

We retain your phone number only as long as necessary to provide messaging services. All SMS data is transmitted securely and handled in accordance with our standard privacy and data retention policies.
